Progressive Education Society is a reputed and distinguished educational institution in the State of Maharashtra. Guruvarya Late Shankarraoji Kanitkar, along with his selfless dedicated team of teachers known for the highest moral values, laid the foundation of the Society on the auspicious day of ‘Akshay Tritiya’ on 16th May, 1934 in Pune. P.E. Society has been making noteworthy progress for the last 89 years along with the noble path and principles laid down by the eminent predecessors such as Guruvarya Late S.R. Kanitkar, Late V.T. Tatke and Late M.G. Chaphekar who were illustrious incarnations of ceaseless hard work and sacrifice. Late S.R. Kanitkar was ably assisted by Late V.T. Tatke, Late M.G. Chaphekar and Late Koparkar. Progressive Education Society is proud to possess the glowing tradition of these stalwarts.

The two remarkable words that appear in the names of the Society and its educational institutions are “Progressive” and “Modern”. The inclusion of these words was certainly with some noble intentions, which serves as a bright beacon for P.E. Society to follow with determination. These two words highlight the aims and objects of this reputed educational institution. “Progressive” and “Modern” were the terms used in 1934 by Late Shankarraoji Kanitkar and his colleagues to delineate the dreams and future road map of Progressive Education Society. “Progressive” means keeping with the spirit of times and innovation while “Modern” means Modern in outlook, up-to-date in all matters whether it is an academic activity, sports activity or cultural activity. It was resolved to use modern equipments and modern methodology to teach the students. The aims and objects of the Progressive Education Society as laid down in its Constitution are “to impart generally to the rising generations of this country, an efficient Pre-primary, Primary, Secondary, Higher Secondary and Collegiate education, embodying a literacy, scientific, technical, commercial and industrial training and the training of teachers by the establishment at Pune and other places in the Maharashtra State, as circumstances permit, of Pre-primary, Primary, Secondary, Higher Secondary Schools and Colleges or by such other means as may be most conducive to the attainment of the aims and objects of the Society.

Progressive Education Society’s B.Ed. College, Shivajinagar, Pune -5 was established in the year 2006. P. E. Society’s B.Ed. College is permanently affiliated to Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune and Recognized by National Council for Teachers Education, Bhopal and Government of Maharashtra. College offer Two Years full time B.Ed. course with an intake of 100 Students. This college is exclusively for the Girl students.

Society has provided adequate infrastructural facilities, Laboratories, Computing Resources, Library and play ground. The Young dynamic and enthusiastic teaching and non teaching staff members spare no efforts to nurture talents amongst the future teachers.

Our students are in the field of Education with sound blend of Academics at under graduate level. Their entry for the B.Ed. course is on the basis of the merit in the entrance exam conducted by the CET Cell of the Government of Maharashtra. We are proud that the students opt for our college to pursue their B.Ed. programme with the highest priority. As a result, the students of P. E. Society’s B.Ed. College, Shivajinagar, Pune-5 are at the forefront in the field Education and Academics. During their course students are getting opportunity to demonstrate lessons in various schools affiliated to various educational boards such as SSC, CBSE, ICSE etc. of the nearby vicinity. Students also undertake the projects which are relevant to the current needs of the educational and academics. These projects have helped students to apply their theoretical knowledge to the real life situation.

Through practical demonstrations, Guest Lectures, Group Discussions, Seminars, Workshops etc, our teaching staff members bring the latest in academics and education to our students. Extra Curricular and Co-curricular activities sharpen their minds and other skills that help in overall development.

We have a dedicated team of teachers, experts and well equipped laboratories. The young and highly qualified team of faculty members spare no efforts to keep the students well informed and in updating their knowledge. The students are also reciprocating by their high achievements in academic performance.

A large number of students are getting excellent placements in the various schools, colleges and institutions. Every year several students have scored excellent marks in the University Examination and some of them are University Rank holders and also the recipient of various awards instituted by the University and parent trust Progressive Education Society. Majority of meritorious students have cleared TET, SET/NET examinations to start their noble teaching profession. Various educational authorities have noted the achievements of the college. There is overwhelming response from the students to secure admission to the B.Ed. course offered by the college.

The college organizes several Activities, Workshops, Seminars and Guest Lectures of the experts and eminent personalities on various topics. The college has crossed landmarks in social work.
